The Royal Peacock
IDOL IS MADE ON THE DRY TEAK WOOD (SAAGWAN).Sagwan wood (Indian teak) acts as the foundational core for silver furniture because it provides the necessary
heavy-duty structural strength, termite resistance, and longevity required to securely support heavy silver.
The image features a finely crafted, ornamental silver sculpture of a peacock. The bird is captured in a proud, upright stance, decorated with traditional Indian
metalwork textures and stylized plumage designs. It is set against a clean, white marble background
Description
1. The Peacock Sculpture
Pose: The peacock is shown in a left-facing profile view. It stands firmly on two thick, textured legs with prominent talons. Its chest is puffed outward, its neck is
held elegantly erect, and its elaborate tail feathers sweep upward behind it.
Head and Neck: The head is adorned with a stylized, fan-like crest (kalgi) featuring distinct vertical ribs. The eyes are large and almond-shaped, outlined by clean
engraved lines, and the beak is short and slightly hooked. A double-banded textured collar wraps around the lower part of its neck.
Body and Wing Textures: The artisan has beautifully sectioned the bird’s feathers using different engraving styles:
Breast: Covered in a highly dense, uniform scale pattern mimicking soft, overlapping chest feathers.
Wings: The wings are layered with long, sweeping, stylized flight feathers that cascade backward, meeting a swirl motif at the shoulder joint.
The Tail Plumage: Instead of a naturalistic flat trail, the main tail structure is highly stylized into large, hollowed-out rococo or baroque-style scrolling waves
(vail patterns) that curl dynamically upwards. A smaller, secondary set of feathers extends horizontally near the ground, etched with fine, fern-like leaf textures.
2. Material and Finish
The sculpture is made entirely on a pure silver metal on wooden artifact.
Finish: It features a highly reflective, polished surface. Subtle oxidation or dark detailing is left within the deep grooves of the carvings to provide high-contrast
definitions across the wings, neck, and tail scrolls.
