The Royal Horse Head
IDOL IS MADE ON THE DRY TEAK WOOD (SAAGWAN).Sagwan wood (Indian teak) acts as the foundational core for silver furniture because it provides the necessary
heavy-duty structural strength, termite resistance, and longevity required to securely support heavy silver.
The idol features an exquisitely detailed silver sculpture of a horse’s head, heavily adorned with royal ceremonial harness and armor
Description
Form & Structure
The Profile: The sculpture captures the noble profile of a royal horse from the neck up, facing slightly toward the right.
Expressive Features: The horse is rendered with sharp, elegant ears pointed upward, deeply contoured almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose ridge, and open nostrils,
giving it a lively and regal expression.
Royal Harness & Ornamentation
The sculpture is richly embellished with intricate geometric and traditional relief work, mimicking the festive armor worn by royal cavalry or ceremonial horses in
India:
The Bridle & Halter: The head is fitted with a decorative silver bridle system. The straps running across the forehead, nose, and jaw are textured with a repeating
square/brick motif and intersected by floral-crossed medallions.
Forehead Netting: A dense, textured beaded pattern covers the bridge of the nose between the eyes, mimicking a mesh or chainmail armor element.
Neck Garlands : The arching neck is wrapped in multiple layered bands of decorative necklaces. These include:
A double-strand beaded pearl design.
A stylized rope-pattern band.
A bottom-most fringe band decorated with dangling, bell-shaped tassels (ghungroos) that add a beautiful dimensional texture.
Base & Finish
The Base: The neck tapers down into a clean, multi-ringed circular pedestal base with a subtle beaded trim at the very bottom, allowing it to stand upright as a
substantial display ornament.
Material Work: The artisan has balanced vast stretches of smooth, gloss silver on the cheeks and neck with heavily chiseled, oxidized recesses inside the
harness straps, eyes, and tassels. This technique creates high visual contrast and magnificent depth
