The Divine Avian
IDOL IS MADE ON THE DRY TEAK WOOD (SAAGWAN).Sagwan wood (Indian teak) acts as the foundational core for silver furniture because it provides the necessary
heavy-duty structural strength, termite resistance, and longevity required to securely support heavy silver.
The idol displays a stunning, silver Garuda, the divine avian deity and faithful mount (vahana) of Lord Vishnu.
Description
Posture & Stance
Standing Position: Garuda is shown standing tall and upright on both feet (Sthanaka posture).
Hands in Prayer: His hands are elegantly folded together at chest level in the traditional Anjali Mudra (devotional prayer and salutation).
Extended Wings: A pair of large, stylized wings extend symmetrically from his shoulders. The wings curve gracefully upward, featuring finely etched, layered feather
rows that create a beautiful fan-like silhouette.
Anatomy & Adornments
Facial Features: The figure possesses a human face with a serene, devoted expression, featuring wide almond-shaped eyes, a sharp nose, and defined facial contours.
Elaborate Crown (Mukut): He wears an exceptionally tall, multi-tiered conical crown that tapers smoothly to a rounded finial (kalash) at the very top. The crown is
detailed with fine horizontal grooves and traditional moldings.
Ornamentation: His muscular torso is adorned with a thick, layered collar necklace (Kanthi) that rests across his collarbones. He wears subtle armlets on his upper
arms and bracelets around his wrists.
Attire: A short, stylized pleated dhoti (waistcloth) wraps around his waist, featuring deep horizontal ridges and a central decorative sash hanging down between his
thighs. Curving guard-like ornaments cover the front of his shins.
The Pedestal Base
The entire idol stands upon a two-tiered circular pedestal.
Upper Tier: A smooth, step-like ring base with a simple beaded accent line.
Lower Tier: A heavy, domed base heavily embellished with deep, traditional Nakashi (engraving) work, showcasing a continuous, intricate pattern of blooming five-petal
flowers and swirling vine foliage.
Material & Polish
The sculpture is crafted from premium, high-purity silver.
The silversmith has left the expansive surfaces of the chest, crown, and arms with a smooth, bright finish to play with the light, while utilizing a darkened,
oxidized finish within the crevices of the feathers, dhoti, and floral base to give the artifact striking depth and contrast
